To explain SomatoEmotional Release (SER) – an aspect of CranioSacral Therapy – I’d like to ask you a couple of questions:
Have you ever had an emotional reaction to someone else’s words or behavior that surprised you? Maybe you reflected on it later, or you were able to talk about it with someone, only to realize your reaction was mistaken?
You assumed and formed an opinion about the other person, including their motivation, and it hurt you. After reflection, however, you realized your reaction was unfounded because the person had a completely different motivation than you’d initially assumed.
If you had an experience like this, have you ever wondered where these assumptions came from? Have you ever noticed that they’re making you feel more anxious and less happy?
If your answer is yes, you are not alone. Like most people in the world, you have inherited and learned to adopt a thought-system from your parents, grandparents, and ancestors that seemed to protect you from the inherent dangers they’d also believed in. Children are sponges for the emotional imprints of their parents, and the cycle continues. As this phenomenon goes back generations, there is no need for blame. There is the need for correction though if feeling happier, less anxious, and less hurt is what you’d like.
SER provides an opportunity to see your mistaken belief(s) – most often subconscious to you – and help you experience a corrected belief that brings with it feelings of gratitude.
WHAT IS
According to the Upledger Institute’s website, “SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma.”
Understanding that the body is connected to the mind and Spirit, as CST relaxes the body, our emotional bodies also soften in the process. SomatoEmotional Release is a naturally occurring phenomenon that happens when a person receiving CST is ready to release emotions that have “hardened” over time. These hardened emotions have become stuck within the person’s energetic field, often impeding growth or even causing dysfunction. They can cause anxiety, guilt, physical pain, and even illness.
Because our emotional and physical bodies are so entwined, it is often necessary to release trapped emotional energy in order to fully heal the physical body back to full health. Indeed, SER can be used to heal from both physical and emotional trauma.
My clients come to me for help, aware that something needs to change but not sure what or how.
It would be my honor to show you, too.
“On a recommendation from my dentist I recently saw Kathy for CranioSacral Therapy sessions, but I received so much more! Aside from a misaligned jaw and neck, I have been quite concerned about digestive issues plaguing me for the past year. In her quiet, loving way, Kathy was able to help me identify and release some deep core issues. Because of the safe, nonjudgmental environment she creates, I was able to talk about things I was holding onto for over 30 years. As I talked (and cried), Kathy gave me good advice and helped me with self-forgiveness. I just can’t say enough good things about Kathy. She’s exceptional!”
